NZ Services 1945/46 Educated Te Awamutu Primary School and Te Awamutu College. Served as a flight-lieutenant in the RNZAF during WWII and was prominent in the NZ Services team in England 1944-46 as a back-row forward. On his return to New Zealand he commenced playing as a prop. Toured Australia 1947 playing in both Tests and then chosen as vice- captain of the 1949 All Blacks in South Africa. Played in 12 tour matches but a groin injury affected his form and restricted his appearances. Standing almost 6 feet and weighing 14 ½ stone, Dalton was a well-built prop with good scrummaging technique and energetic in loose play. Retired from Rugby after the 1950 season. Father of Andy Dalton, the 1977-80 All
Black. An advertising executive.
